Won't You Come Sit in My Garden?

Needless to say, school has been cancelled today.

The kids are thrilled and have been outside since 8am. Using a hammer to chop up the ice to put in cups to pour koolaid over and make thier own slushies.

Me? Not so much.

Because all I see in my future are wet boots and wet gloves and wet hats and wet coats and an extra load of laundry or two and then somebody losing an eye when an icicle falls off the roof.

Because I'm a scrooge like that.

Sounds like the kids are having fun on their "ice day". Some people, not that I'm one, would worry about acid rain type icicles.

Look at the bright side, you can ask the kiddies to chop some of that ice up for you to put in your margarita. I mean, it might make the wet laundry thing go smoothly.

It's supposed to be 80 here in Georgia!

Aren't you glad you moved back to Oklahoma? I'm sure the kids are having a blast. Mine always hope we will get ice and school will get cancelled, but it usually only happens every 2-3 years or so. The coldest we've had so far has been about 40. But at least it is finally starting to feel more like Christmas after a weekend full of 80 degree weather.

I guess I will keep my snow. We got 42 inches from Dec 1st - Dec 4th. Not bad compared to all that ice though. I know what you mean about the laundry though.. and what about the entry way being over run with hats& gloves & shoes & boots oh my!

Boy that looks cold! It is 70 here in Western NC today. Sure wish we had some of that moisture others speak of, we are in a severe drought, when people start losing their water source it is past time for some rain, snow, ice whatever. Glad the kids are enjoying their snow/ice day, always enjoy reading your blog but seldom delurk so just delurking to say Thank You and hope you have wonderful Christmas.

Hey Kristie!

The second I saw that picture (I'm from Iowa, and deal with that CRAP for several months out of the year) I thought, "Oh no! I hope she told them not to knock icicles off the house!!!" So I was happy to read, "and then somebody losing an eye when an icicle falls off the roof". Because I can only assume by that statement that you've warned them of the dangers. They are oh so VERY tempting...I know!

And I'll give you one more "note to self" since you're just getting reacquainted with the ice. Be careful even when you open your door because the top of your door will hit icicles and they will come shooting down right on your head. That could hurt. So a little tip is try to look through the window to see if there are any long icicles hanging down so you can take cover when they break off!

While I've not had one pierce me right in the noggin (knock on wood), they've scared the absolute sh*t out of me with the narrow misses! And don't look up AFTER you've already opened the door. Then you'll get it in the eye!

So anyway...welcome to "winter wonderland"! (It takes on a whole new meaning and seems a little less romantic and peaceful when you have to live with it every stinking day. Doesn't it?!) :)

At least you're getting the ice off the sidewalk. Wait til you need the kids to shovel the snow so you, not Blaine won't have to.

Boy you sure know how to break those kids in to cold weather! I bet they get used to it much quicker than you and Blaine.

Sunny and 80 today in AL...ugh. This time of year I'd rather see some ice and snow. Not much, but a little cool weather isn't too much to ask, is it? It was strange to see the kids at school today with shorts and Christmas shirts on! :)

Oh boy. It's 6:15 and the ice is just now getting here. We're probably on the schedule for no school tomorrow. Did you get any of the thunderstorm action with it? We are anticipating losing power sometime in the next 24 hours. Whee! But your chairs look really cool...

What a difference 160 miles can make! We missed the "ice warning" by about 20 miles...I was so relieved. After 3 sick days last week, Ethan HAD to go to school today!

It's warm here too. I still have the a/c on. It usually gets cold here around the first of Janruary.

We were losing so many branches left and right that I was too afraid to let the kids go outside. Having to schlep the kids to the ER on the icy roads with the tree branch concussions and their icicle wounds would have put a serious crimp in my hot cocoa drinking. (Not that I could do much in an all-electric house with no power...)
I'm here via LammyAnnLife and live in OK too.

Holy Crap!! What a change from the GA weather. No site of snow or ice here in TN, it was 50 today and will be 77 tomorrow. We have had some weird weather here. Tell the kids we said Hi.

Wow I saw the effects of the storm on the news here in Texas. That is quite a welcome home present from mother nature. Glad to hear that y'all are ok though, and hopefully the power stays on. Prayers that y'all get some of this warm air that will be coming through Texas headed north tomorrow to warm you up a bit.

Guess what? A friend of mine just got out of the hospital after being stabbed in the NECK by a falling icicle! I promise this is true. How weird is that? I suggested she should move to Bermuda or someplace.
