Travel Tip #5

Driving cross country, even only part-way cross country, is a wonderful, educational opportunity for you to enlighten and teach your children about the beauty, geography and history of these United States of America. A great chance to fill their eager little minds with trivia and knowledge about the very states whose terrain you are traversing.

Proof that I am doing a good job with my own kids? Kendrie's plaintative wail, as she dropped her head into her hands, about hour sixteen into our journey, that .....

"Arkitado is the longest state EVER!!!"

See? See what a good job I'm doing?

I should probably homeschool.

Thank you, Kelli, because I'm wondering the same thing, and I'm glad I'm not the only one. The closest I can come is Arkansas? Maybe? Because I will admit right here and right now that I am geographically lacking, as with so many other things, too. So many, in fact, that I don't even worry too much about the geography, since the others are much more significant. Until it comes times to try to figure out things like Arkitado!!! I am having a blast reading these travel tips; someday you'll have to thank your kids for all the belly laughs they have provided the blog world. Someday when it won't embarrass them beyond belief...or, wait...maybe that would be the point? MWAHAHAHA!

Tell Kendrie when I drove from Nashville home to Dallas, Arkitado did seem to take forever. But Nevaditado north to south, Kansitado east to west, or Texitado from west to east are the worst. Egads!

So, um... I'm with Kelli on this one. Where the hell are you? Arkansas? Colorado? Somewhere in between? Ha! Happy trails, wherever it is you are!

Cate, Iowatado and Nebraskatado are also the longest states ever. The road is so straight and flat and there's nothing to look at. You can almost read an entire book while you're at the wheel driving through them.

I, too, have been to Arkitado.
I had to travel it with many of my in-laws... yes, it is the longest state ever!

Arkitado? I think I learned about that at Camp last week... Something new and hip those teenagers came up with.

Just be careful in Arkitado, ok? If you are heading toward Oklatado, you are headed for bunches of rain. Stay safe.

But, Susan in MN, at least when you're in Iowatado and Nebraskatado you can find a Sonic. We stopped at every one we could find on the way to the Land of Enchantmentado. Waiting for them in Mplstado!!!!!

Ahhh...yes, my dad drove us through there at least 50 times on family vacations.

HAHAHAHA--I just have to keep coming back here to check out the new comments, because they just keep getting better and better! Apparently, there are lots of other Minnesotans who are as amused by "Arkitado" as I am! Sheila in Minnesota, I think we should start a "Bring Sonic to 'The Cities'" campaign! I mean, really...they have TOTS! And Slushies. Not to mention all that DDP with rabbit-pellet ice. We never get any of the good places here in Mplstado! Still thinking about risking a road trip to Iowatado for a Sonic experience!

Can't wait for Tip #6!

So happy to hear of other's delinquencies in geography. While looking a the map, my son wanted to know how long it would take to get to my in-law's lake cottage if we drove all the way through "Micah-higgin". That would be Michigan, folks. Oh, boy.

I think Arkitado is right next to Okamoma, where it seems to be monsoon season. Hope your trip is going well!
