I drove the kids to the local bookstore today to let each of them pick out a new book for the car ride to Oklahoma. There are only so many hours of "Home Alone 3" I can listen to through the DVD speakers. And yes, we have earphones, but the kids hate them and I don't think it's safe for me to drive wearing them, although about the time the crooks jump off the roof of Alex's house, screaming the entire way, I'm more than ready to put on the headset, or even stab myself in the eardrums with those little things you use to hold corn on the cob.
But I digress. Bookstore.
So we pulled up into the parking lot of Books-A-Million, and Brayden exclaimed excitedly, "Hey, look! Look you guys, do you see it? Do you see that bird right there? She built a nest in the middle of the A-hole!"
And all I could do was laugh.
PS. Brayden = Ella Enchanted
Kellen = A Wrinkle in Time
Kendrie = Ramona Quimby, age 8

I remember reading the Ramona series when I was Kendrie's age, and loving it, so hopefully she enjoys it just as much!
Oops, forgot to sign my name again on the last post. I'm Jen from London, Ontario, Canada.
Remember too that you can stop at any Cracker Barrel and rent books on tap for a few dollars provided you return them at another Cracker Barrel down the road.
This has nothing to do with your post. I think your pictures are great. Just have 1 question, do you edit them or do you basically leave them as they were taken? If so, what software do you use?
YAY, KENDRIE! Ramona Quimby was one of my favorite book people when I was Kendrie's age. Well, Ramona AND Henry Higgins. I've often wondered if these books were still around and now I know they are! Wow, Ramona has truly stood the test of time!
And I'm so glad that the A-hole finally has a use! HAHAHA!
Ramona! She's the BEST! I love it when she yells "guts" in the shoe store.
Happy driving!
AAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
that is so funny!!!!!!!
that is something i would laugh at too.. I cannot wait until my son grows big enough to do silly stuff like that.. ehehhee
Sounds like your kids made some great choices. Ella Enchanted is one of my favorite books (and yes, I read it as an adult). And, Ramona was one of my favorites as a kid. My son loved a Wrinkle in Time.
Here's a new game I learned to play in the car with my kids. Whenever you see a yellow car you call out "yellow car" and get 2 points if it was moving, 1 point if it was parked. Buses, taxis and semi-trailers do not count and if you call them you lose points. It's fun because there aren't that many yellow vehicles on the road so you have to be on the lookout. We made a rule that if it was a yellow volkswagen (slug bug) then you get 3 points. You can make rules as you go along. I'll warn you though that it can get annoying and that you will find yourself noticing all yellow vehicles even when you're not playing the game. I've even found myself calling out "yellow car" when I'm in the car alone. But, the kids seem to like it and if you're in the need of something to keep them occupied in the car then you might want to try it.

Way to go Kendrie.. My favorite
Great pick, Kendrie! Have a wonderful trip. Kristie, I'm using your 100 Things idea to give to my fiance on our wedding day (07.07.07). Thanks!

Now that's funny!
Krisite, I love the blog! In light of your entries re: books, I thought you'd like to know about a great website www.paperbackswap.com. Too difficult to explain in this space, but check it out. My kids and I have enjoyed it.
Thanks for the laugh this morning. Sounds like the kids picked some good books.

Hilarious! I hope when you come to OK that all these freaky thunderstorms stop. It's been pretty non-stop around here, and not much fun to be cooped up in a house.
That is hysterical!!!!!!!
Not sure if I have ever posted before - I know meant to post on your blog about helping with the end of the year parties - I'm a teacher and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a parent like you in my class...as it stands now few of my parents do anything (my school is high poverty - Title I, but I digress..
Way to go on reading choices! Kenrie just finished 1st right? And she's independently reading Ramona??? That's amazing. :) I don't think I graduated a single child to 2nd grade this year who could read Ramona on his/her own. Way to go Kendrie!!! :)
Also a Wrinkle in Time is no easy book either - I tried to read it when I was Kellen age and couldn't do it, fantasy isn't really "my thing" though....
Never read Ella Enchanted - it came out after my time - but I'm sure it's a fab choice!
Maybe the Home Alone 3 DVD can get left "Home Alone" in Atlanta???? And replaced with something with a higher "grown up tolerance factor"
Okay, I want to borrow Ramona when Kendrie is done....Ramona and I spent alot of time together when I was a kid. Nothin like a bird's nest in the a-hole, huh?
That made me laugh out loud in my office this morning!
ROFLMAO! That is way too funny! Thanks for the laugh! Kendrie, I hope you like the Ramona book. I read them when I was young and loved them... so I picked them up and read them again as an adult. Still love 'em! Have a great trip!
Now you went and did it - I am never again going to call or think someone is an A-Hole without thinking of birds. I can get easily confused - but just curious - did the kids ask what you were laughing at??? If so, how did you explain!!! LOVE THE FACT THAT YOU CAUGHT IT AND SHARED. What a riot!!

I nominated you in May as the Sonic customer of the year (the idea came from someone else here, though) and I got a follow-up email today from Sonic!
"Thank you Mark and Lisa! I have forwarded this info on to our Peoples and Communication department for follow-up. We love to hear these stories!"
I think this must mean you are at least being considered! C'mon everybody--write in for Kristie, too! SonicPR@Sonicdrivein.com
I LOVED A Wrinkle in Time (and the others in the series) when I was about 12. Great book!
