Proof ...

…that I don’t do my fair share of the cleaning around this house:

I dropped a carton of eggs this morning and three of them broke on the kitchen floor (I know, I’m a total klutz.) About that time, Kellen and Kendrie came into the kitchen looking for their Lucky Charms nutritional morning meal of veggie omelets, and I hollered at them to "Watch out, don’t step in the eggs!" This conversation ensued:

Me: "Watch out! Don’t step in the eggs!"

Kendrie: "Ick, what happened?"

Me: "I dropped the eggs. But don’t step in them, they’re slimy and sticky."

Kellen: "Sticky?"

Me: "Well, they won’t be sticky once I get them mopped up, but for now, yes, they’re sticky."

Kellen: "Mopped up? Like, with a mop?"

Me: "Yes, son, with a mop."

Kellen: "Oh. Um ….. do you know how to do that?"

PS-- in the meantime, thank you all SO MUCH for the fantabulous book suggestions! I am making a list and SO going to the bookstore before my vacation! I’m going to respond tomorrow and in the meantime, keep the titles coming! I know lots of us are getting super ideas!

Mop? Is that somehow different from a Swiffer Wet? HAHAHA! You, my friend, are NOT alone...

I love the book suggestions, too. And if I seem a little TOO over-zealous about "For One More Day" you will understand why when you read it. Wow--"too over-zealous"--is that redundant, or what...

Anyway, please, just read it; it will take maybe a few hours, tops. But once you start, you're gonna wanna buzz straight through. And just FYI, I have heard from everyone who has ever gone on an Alaskan cruise (and there are a lot of them) that it was the best vacation ever! So, lucky you--YAY!

I'm reading the "Reagan Diaries" right now, and so far it is great.

Just a few more recommendations to add (some may be repeats from earlier posts): Three Cups of Tea, A Fine Balance, The HaHa, The Kite Runner, The Glass Castle, The Bookseller of Kabul, The Traveling Pants series, Five Pieces of the Orange. I LOVE Jane Austen and need to re-read her novels every once in a while...especially Pride and Prejudice! To Kill a Mockingbird, Night, etc. and others are great to re-read,too. :) My 11-year-old daughter and I are in a Mother-Daughter book club, so I'd love some suggestions for books for us to read if anyone has good ideas. Books.....what a great topic!!!

You know how to use a mop? That is HILARIOUS. I love the comments that come out of kid's mouths sometimes.

Mary in Il.. Dandelion Cottage would be good for a mother daughter book club pick. I read it as a child and as an adult :)

If you don't need the books right now, try half.com...cheap and easy :) That is, if you know how to use the computer...is it next to the mop?
Happy FRIDAY!!

Well, my 2 y.o. refers to our mop as "Mommy's mop". Does that tell you how often my dear husband uses it???

I never mop...when my mom visited my apartment in Atlanta, she would mop. I would just let her do it during her visits...I never ever picked the thing up. Pretty sad, eh? But, I'm a relatively clean, single adult, so I'm allowed! :)

Oh, I just visited the book store yesterday and got two more books by Charles Martin. If you email your address, I'll send these when I finish them. Otherwise, they will just be collecting dust on my bookshelf.

Hey Kristie, Love to read your Blog and I have followed Kendrie's journey on Caringbridge for the past several years...what an inspiration.

Any ways, I have a couple great books to recommend: I call them great "Beach reads"

"Where The Heart Is" by Billie Letts and

"Summer Sisters" by Judy Blume

They are fast, light reading, great books. I plan to re-read them this summer. It's been a few years since I've read them.

hahaha thanks for the laugh :) Forget the mop, I'm a "Swifferer"... whenever I have time...

I'm reading The Alternative Hypothesis by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt. It's the story of Hitler being accepted to the Fine Art Academy in Vienna as a teen ;) Kind of interesting.

Hi Kristie, this comment actually isn't about your current post, but I noticed that you talked about "Dancing With the Stars" a lot when it was on, and was just wondering if you've ever watched "So You Think You Can Dance"? It's on on Wednesday and Thursday nights, and is so much fun to watch!

Sorry, Kristie, I forgot to post my name with the last comment, lol. I'm Jen from Canada!

Hey Kristie, Wanted to leave you with a couple of books that I did not yet see posted.
My all time fav is Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier and a recent best seller 1776 (little heavier, but very good)by David McCullough. I love, love, love to read, but with 3 kids it ain't easy to find time. Sandy in Edison, GA

I just thought of some other great books that I didn't mention before. Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross is one of my all time favorites. I didn't think I'd like it when I picked it up but was hooked by the first chapter. Also, another great kids book series that we read as a family is Leon and the Spitting Image and Leon and the Champion Chip by Allen Kurzweil (funny, light-hearted books that my 11 and 13 year old enjoyed but I think even younger would enjoy them too).

Hey Kristie, You know I'm awful about posting, but have been following Kendrie and Blaine (and you, too) faithfully! Glad to hear everybody is doing so well.

I had to post when you mentioned the book thing. I love to read. I love to read Romance, Fantasy, and Mystery. Nora Robers (also her JD Robb persona) are always good. Karin Slaughter is a great mystery writer, and the books take place in Georgia/Alabama. But make sure you start with the first in her series. Sue Grafton has done the ABC mystery series which I have really enjoyed. If you want to try Fantasy (in addition to Harry Potter) the following are great: Terry Brooks, Robert Jordan, Tolkien (of course), Terry Goodkind, Sara Douglass, Laura Resnick, and Melanie Rawn. Some of the fantasy series are quite long (and unfinished still), but some are only three books long and perfect for vacation. Sara Douglass is probably one of my favorite for a shorter series. She has several and they are all VERY different.

I, too, can't wait for Harry Potter. I did read somewhere that JK Rowling said Dumbledore was definitely dead. I hope not! I am afraid she will kill off Harry, just to put a permanent end to it all. And maybe because killing him is the only way to kill Voldy.
Sorry this got way to long, told you that you hit a soft spot with me.

Take care (we still miss Georgia and all our friends there, and especially the hospital. UNM just doesn't measure up.)

A mop? That's what the dog is for! I never thought about it until our beagle (raccoon in a dog suit)died last summer. Boy, is my kitchen floor a mess now. I had said we weren't getting another dog, but I'm rethinking my position on that, just to help keep my floor a little cleaner! Tell Lager he needs to get up and earn his keep!

Hmmm, sometimes I even drop stuff intentionally. I mean, isn't it just easier to swoop stuff off the kitchen table and onto the floor? I'm going to vacuum it all up. . .someday. . .

Hi--
Let me start by saying that I have followed you and your family for a long time, but your blog entries make me laugh out loud :P
This is completely unrelated to anything in your post, but I'm coming to Atlanta this semester and will be a student at Emory. Do you have any suggestions for must-sees in Atlanta or any other things I should know?

Leaving for Camp Sunshine (teen week) today! Is Kendrie going to camp? I forget, is she 7? I've been following your page forever, so it seems like she must be 10 or 12 by now...ha! Glad you guys had fun at the beach...Seaside is my most favorite part of Florida! Just to put in my two cents...just finished Dedication by by Emma McLaughlin & Nicola Kraus (who also wrote The Nanny Diaries...a MUST read). Martha Stewart encouraged me to read "Teacher Man", and I just couldn't get into it...anyone read it and moved past the boring first 5 pages? You guys have a wonderful week...I'm sure it's hotter than HADES down there by you guys! Stay cool!!

I seriously don't think I would even know how to use a mop!!! The concept doesn't play out in my head ... it just seems like you would be pushing around nastiness or something, haha. I'm with you all with the swiffer ;)

Thanks for asking for book suggestions! I had finished a book (Critical Conditions -- good read!) and was needing to head to the library, so it helped me out in getting some good new books! And little did I know that there is a gift shop in my library that sells used hardback books that are still on the best seller lists for $1 and $2! So I picked up quite a few cheap books!!!

Have a great week!

Boy does that EVER sound like a comment that would come from one of my kids. I HATE mopping!
