Anniversary Shenanigans

So, I mentioned to my sister earlier this week that Blaine and I were considering getting a sitter for our anniversary tonight, and possibly going out to dinner and a movie. She immediately offered (which leads me to believe she’s going to be hitting me up for some reciprocal babysitting very soon) to keep our kids for us …. all three of them ... OVERNIGHT. I mean, all night, no kids? No having to watch Drake and Josh all evening? No one asking for chocolate milk before bedtime? No one sneaking into our bed during the night, and then sleeping sideways until Blaine and I are both hanging on to our respective sides of the mattress for dear life? What the heck would we even DO with ourselves???

So our dinner and movie plans quickly morphed into dinner and dancing and drinking plans, because ha-ha, I can be hung over in the morning and there is no reason not sleep in! Well, except for our Sunday School garage sale that I have to work at, at 8am. But still, drinking!! and dancing!! Until I remembered that Blaine no longer drinks. And he’s never danced. Not even when he was young and coordinated. I hardly think he will embrace dance clubs in middle age. So I decided maybe bowling was more up to speed. Then, he had a root canal this morning, and was still not feeling well this afternoon, so we downgraded back to dinner and movie, fairly low-involvement activities. Which I guess is good for old farts like us.

When I got home from the pool early this evening --- SANS CHILDREN --- he *still* wasn’t feeling great, so we downgraded even more, to take-home from Kentucky Fried Chicken. And Blockbuster.

And that is how, on my 21st wedding anniversary, I came to be sitting on the sofa at 7pm, in a swimsuit and cover up, eating mashed potatoes and gravy right out of the Styrofoam container with the little plastic spork, watching “We Are Marshall” with my husband on the sofa.

And how at 11pm, as I type this, he is crashed in his recliner and I am playing on the computer, doing wild and crazy things like ordering rash guards for the kids off ebay.

PS. I think the truth of our anniversary lies in the fact that there is no one else I would rather stay at home and watch rented movies with than with him. Original recipe and all. But considering last year we celebrated our anniversary by TAKING A CRUISE TO ALASKA, I’d have to say this year was a bit of a let-down. We didn’t even buy each other that stainless steel kitchen sink like we talked about.

Gah, we’re pathetic.

Try not to be too jealous of us.

Happy Anniversary! I think that Alaska celebration will hold you all over for a few more anniversaries! We had our 15th this year. We got the kids in bed early - had some champagne and jumped on the trampoline - 20 degrees - in the dark - nekid. Yep we're classy like that.

Happy anniversary, Kristie and Blaine! I understand so well that feeling of "this person is just the right person to get take-out with and watch movies OR go on an Alaskan cruise." I guess we're lucky like that! We finally got all grown up and planned to have our new sitter come every other Saturday night--yes, two dates a month! Tonight would be our second try at that, but now both kids have chicken pox. The sitter is so game, she told me she's had them already and could still sit. But Norah looks too punky to leave, so home we'll stay...

Enjoy your anniversary weekend, and I hope Blaine feels better soon.

Well, I don't know about anybody else, but that sounds like the PERFECT anniversary celebration to me. Except maybe with Chinese food. After 300 years, you just consider yourself lucky that you still LIKE the other person!!

Yeah, I agree...what a let down after an Alaskan Cruise, but...you celebrate like we do. =)
Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary!! It sounds absolutely perfect in my book!

We had our 16th last Friday and we spent it 1000 miles from home in New Mexico cleaning out my grandma's house...which in itself wouldn't be bad except when she died, she left a house/yard that hadn't been cleaned in the last ten years, including 5 BIG dogs that have had full run of the house for those 10 years. It was nasty to say the least. If my man will stick with me through that, it's destiny!

Congrats on your anniversary. Here's to many, many more happy years!

Happy Anniversary Blaine and Kristi! WTF, you can't have an alaska cruise every year, lol! I'm jealous, KFC and a movie with Blaine? Now 21 years is something to boast about for sure! Hugs from Fort Worth!

Sounds like true love to me!! Wish we could rewind to your celebration last year and be on the CRUISE!!!!
Keith and I went out last night - actually got a sitter - and thought we were wild and crazy by staying out until midnight! Movie and KFC sounds great to me!

And who says that you have to celebrate on your anniversary? I know friends that would keep your children for a few hours some night so that you could celebrate whenever you want. So call Marla when you're ready!!

Happy Anniversary, guys! Blaine - I've had root canals before myself, so I feel your pain, man. Hang in there....and don't be afraid to hit the oral surgeon or dentist up for lots of pain killing drugs - it's the only good part about the entire root canal experience, in my opinion. Kristie - I kinda liked anonymous' in Navarre's idea: jumping naked on a trampoline (but, wear a bra if you decide to try it, and make sure Blaine takes a percoset first!). As for the stainless steel sink? I have one - don't like it. My dream kitchen sink is one of the big, really deep country sink/front apron porcelain sink numbers - you know, the kind that have a front side that extends out and doesn't have the edge of the counter in front of it? I guess they're kind of hard to explain, but they're so cool! Go get one of those instead, and I'll be totally jealous for you!!!!

Sounds like a lovely evening. Hey, any evening sitting in front of the TV with food that you didn't have to cook and the man you love, without children, is a lovely evening. Hope you got a good night sleep, at least, with no kids in the bed. I treasure those rare nights myself.

If you need to see whales again, check out my blog www.sherisscribbles.blogspot.com my wonderful hubby planned our anniversary weekend, last weekend, and did good, REALLY GOOD! The pics weren't as good as yours and my camera battery died half way through our tour. But, I got to see REAL LIVE WHALES in the wild!

Happy Anniversary to you both! May you have many more and a few kidless nights in between. You deserve it!

Well, that's how we celebrate our "anniversaries" and we're not even married yet...can't wait to see what we do for our honeymoon when we finally decide to get married! Original recipe is the best...I only wish they would use it on the strips as I don't like chicken on the bone much...but the mashed potatoes are bomb...in any event, Happy Anniversary and here's to hoping you have many more...btw, what is it with May weddings? My parents just had their 29th on the 4th.
Oh, and what are rash guards?

Happy Anniversary!
I can make your KFC and Blockbuster seem like gourmet dining and Broadway! Our anniversary is shortly before Christmas, and since our daughter came along, we usually end up Christmas shopping on our anniversary since we have a babysitter. For our 6th or 7th anniversary, we went to IHOP (yes, IHOP! because we thought it would be quick which would give us more time to shop) and I spilled syrup on my white shirt, so my hubby went into WalMart across the street and got me a shirt (which he then tried to claim was an anniversary gift). Then we went shopping and bought other people gifts! Every year I make a rule that we'll spend our anniversary doing something for US, and every year I break the rule.
I hope Blaine's feeling better!

Happy Anniversary! Your celebrations sound exactly like ours, though we didn't get to take a cruise for our 20th. Celebrate the ordinary...for our 21st anniversary this past September, I was in a medically induced coma after surgery to drain fluid from my heart and lungs and was diagnosed with AML. Yeah, it pretty much sucked. I'm interested to see what this year holds for us.

Happy Anniversary...and many many more.
I live close to Marshall and drive by all the time. My son lives across the street from the football stadium. They filmed the movie here and all those stars in little Huntington WV was starstruck. I live across the river in Ohio and stayed far away when they were filming...My son had to fight his way out some days just to get to work.

Happy Anniversary anyway! We just celebrated our 20th this year. I guess it's all downhill from here right?

For my parents' 20th anniversary (10 years ago), my Dad gave my Mom a TAPE CASE and my Mom gave my Dad a new sweat band. My sister and I sat there horrified. Needless to say, for their 25th, I made a book for them and had all of their friends send in contributions for it. Seriously, a TAPE case??? Chris and I will have our 5 year this November (just dating, not married cause someone won't just go buy the stupid ring already, not that I'm bitter), and I doubt it's going to be a big deal. We'll see though. Happy Anniversary!

Hey - your anniversary sounds as exciting as mine is going to be. My daughter will be having jaw surgery and staying in the hospital for my anniversary this year.

Whoo.

Forgot to tell you - we've had a very rare whale visitation up here in Puget Sound this past week - a humpback whale, all by itself, just cruising around and eating, and seemingly in no hurry to leave....caused quite a stir amongst the Seattle media......

Next month is our 5th anniversary, and I'll be 6 days away from my due date. I'm guessing we won't have a big celebration, but let me tell you, KFC sounds great right now! I'm starving! Maybe I can convince Jeremy to get KFC for our anniversary. Although, by then, I'll be craving something else, I'm sure.
