Not sure what I’m doing wrong

I went to our church yesterday and joined the gym they have available for church members. The gym that is three blocks from my house. However, rather than walk, I drove my car there because it looked like it might rain. So then I pulled open the big heavy doors when I walked in. And filled out a form to join, which involved moving a pen around quite a bit, and finally, lifted my wallet to open it and pay my membership fee.

Then I had to have my picture taken for my gym ID and I had to step forward towards the camera, then oooops, too far forward, step back a bit, no, a little bit forward again …. I swear it was like a grueling high-impact aerobics class.

Then I got in the elevator and went upstairs to look at the gym equipment and the walking track. Granted, I probably could have taken the stairs, especially since it was only one flight, but in my defense, I did push those elevator buttons really, really emphatically. Which is a good workout for your pointer finger, as everyone knows.

Then I looked at the treadmills. And stationary bikes. And stair steppers. They looked nice, but I was not inclined to get on any of them. And then I talked to a personal trainer for a while. Not about exercise, but just because she was friendly.

Then, I left to come home, and aha! I was right, and it had started raining. So I practically sprinted from the door to my car. Sprinted! to the car. Which was about 30 feet.

Then I got home and I was so exhausted from all that activity that I sat on the sofa. And ate a cookie.

Shockingly, when I got up this morning, I hadn’t lost a single pound.

I’m just not sure what I’m doing wrong.

I'm right there with ya. My new apartment has a gym but no one uses it. So it should be all mine right? Yea, but I feel "funny" being the only one using it. There's a heated pool but no one uses that either. How silly would I look swimming!
I do know that it helps to alternate which finger you use to push those elevator buttons.

maybe if I get to the tanning salon it won't matter if I'm the only one swimming.
I know, I have this big letter L on my forehead.

That's strange. I'm sure I've lost at least 2 pounds just reading about all your activity!

Well Kristie, obviously it's because you're building muscle, which everyone knows weighs more than fat.

Oh! You are having the same problem as me! I pulled our bike all the way across the family room, bent down and put on my sneakers, climbed on the bike, moved around a good bit trying to see if the seat was adjusted for my height, then remembered I had left my phone upstairs so I went to get it and never made it back to the bike. haha! At least it is getting warmer outside, so I know I will soon be taking the little one for walks around town.

...my first day of training for the half marathon was putting my running shoes on and wearing them to work. My second day of training consisted of purchasing a tank top to run in...my third day of training is approaching next week....perhaps you will beat me to it!

When you find out what you're doing wrong, please let me know. I seem to be having the same problem. Baffling!

I needed a good laugh today! Thanks for providing it. Don't push it too hard at the begining of your program. You should probably take a day off now before you exercise again!

Thank you, my dear - you made my Friday morning!! Some day they may actually invent a form of exercise that I not only LIKE, but ENJOY doing!!!! (But, I seriously doubt it)!!!!

Hey Kristie!

I can sooo relate to your workout regime. I joined the gym one month ago and have been there five times. I even bought new runners, you know to motivate me, I LOVE the workout when I do it but am having a heck of a time getting myself into a regular routine.

I keep telling myself it takes 3 weeks to form a habit, my problem is getting started on those 3 weeks.

Have a great weekend!

When you do the same exercises over and over again, your body knows what you are trying to do and it rebels by not giving up any excess weight. Try pushing that elevator button with you thumb!

I am not sure what the problem is either. Let me sit down and think about it...while eating some ice cream. They do say that milk does a body good...and ice cream is nothing more than frozen milk, right?

The THIRD time we joined the health club, our health insurance gave us a discount if we each went eight times a month. We got really good at sliding in, getting our cards swiped and then wandering over to the snack bar or pro shop for a few minutes before leaving! We dropped the membership and then I bought a $400 bike that doesn't make my butt sore (or at least it didn't the ONE time I rode it last year). Oh fiddle-dee-dee, I'll think about all that tomorrow. I've got some Dove easter eggs calling me right now.

I think you're very wise to warm your body up slowly and get it used to this lifestyle "enhancement". Overdoing it could cause permanent damage. I hope you stop and get a Starbucks the next time you push yourself that hard!

What an exhausting workout! Honestly, just going to the store knocks me out for the rest of the day. And I exercise every day at home. I think it's the leaving the house bit that gets me.

Oh yea, my brother actually broke his finger ringing a doorbell once, so don't let anyone tell you it's not strenuous.

I think that amount of work deserves a celebratory DDP from Sonic! I'll go get one now because I'm so exhausted from reading! :)
