Fancy schmancy anniversary plans. Try not to be jealous.

Twenty-two years ago tonight, I was here:

Twenty-two years later, ie TONIGHT, I was here:

It's a summertime rite of passage, as far as I'm concerned.

Our kids had never been to the drive in. Although they were curious about how we would actually hear the movie (whatever happened to the speakers on the posts? Does anyone know? Now it's played via a radio station and people around us were pulling boom boxes and portable radios out to hook up .... we weren't that savvy, so we just turned Blaine's truck radio up REALLY LOUDLY and prayed the battery wouldn't be dead at the end of the movie ....) they wound up enjoying the evening.

It was an awesome night for it ... great temps, light winds, plenty of snacks from home, and a movie we all enjoyed. Please take note of the poor couple in front of us, attempting a romantic evening out by going to the drive in, in a convertible. It's very Danny-and-Sandy, don't you think? I'm sure it was extra-special-romantic, sitting ten feet from my kids, listening to them laugh hysterically at the Capuchin monkeys, complain that they couldn't hear and why didn't we bring a boom box like everyone else, rummage through the snack bag over and over and over, laugh some more, and then argue about who was taking up the most room in the truck bed. Although, if that couple truly wanted a romantic evening out, shouldn't they have picked a movie that didn't involve Ben Stiller and museum statues coming to life?

Honestly, I can't think of anyplace else I would rather have been.

Happy Anniversary, honey. Here's to another 22 years of buttered popcorn and overpriced soda.

Our drive-ins are almost all gone.....land is worth so much here they keep turning those drive-ins into houses/condos/hotels. I did treat my kids to the drive-in as youngsters and they remember every movie we went to see....but I don't recall doing it on an anniversary....good choice!!

Happy Anniversary, you two! Wish we had a drive-in close to Atlanta that you didn't have to sit inside your car with a sharp object to protect yourself...kinda takes away from the experience! Glad you guys got to enjoy it!!

OK- where are you? I pulled this up for Jay to see and it got us remembering when we were first married and we would go to double features during the summer in Utah. I did not know we had a drive in around here! I can't wait to find out where. Jay and I would love to take the kids!
Happy Anniversary- you had no idea what kind of adventures were ahead when you two were taking that photo 22 years ago. But you have made it through some of the more difficult things in life that most people don't experience. Happy Anniversary and best wishes for many more years of bliss.

LOL...you and my mom had the same hair back then! So, I'm guessing you either went to the drive in on S Western or in Guthrie...closest to us is Chickasha, and we love going...so much fun and a much better value than regular theaters. Congratulations on 22 love filled years!

Happy Anniversary Kristie and Blaine!

That looks like a really fun evening. I had to laugh because the second I saw that picture, Grease popped into my head too. :)

Happy Anniversary!

It sounds like you had a wonderful evening, and I'm thrilled that you exposed your kids to something new. You, as usual, help create memories for them and someday they'll be extremely grateful for all you've done.

The drive in! Truly, the bedrock of our nation (well, along with a few other things). The only one I've seen out west is in UTAH when I drive back and forth to my sister's. I should time it so we stop one night. . .in the summer. . .

What a great night! Happy Anniversary!

What, DDP and not kool aid in the cooler. Also a huge paperbag of buttered popcorn. I bet it wasn't buck night either. Must be double screen with cars 2 rows up parked in opposite direction.

Happy anniversary! I am in the middle of a divorce after 18 years...I'm completely devastated and jealous of you...after Haley's diagnosis and my recent battle with lupus, we let the stress and financial burdens drive a wedge. Here's to you guys letting it bond you together. Wishing you many more years of happiness!
