As follows

Proof that it's time for the holiday break to be O.V.E.R. and my children should go back to school? Two conversations. Actually, one conversation and one (incredibly rude and ill-mannered) comment.

As follows:

Kellen: "Mom, imagine you are a slave."

Me: "And that would be different from my life ... how????"

Kellen: "Mom, seriously. Imagine you are a slave and you have to do everything for us."

Me: "Again, not really seeing the difference."

Kellen: "Mom! Slaves do their work because they have to! You work for us because we're your kids! And, um ..... well ..... you have to."

Glad to know at least ONE child has seen the light.

And the rude comment that has me already setting the alarm clock for bright and early tomorrow morning?

As follows:

Brayden, who has been watching a boatload of TLC and Discovery with me this break: "How come that Duggar lady has eighteen kids and you never see her lose her temper on tv, and we only have three, and our mom yells all the time???"

Yeah, setting the alarm clocks for EARLY tomorrow morning, I am.

I, too, wonder why she never loses her cool. Then I figured it out: she's on lethal doses of Xanax or since she assigns newborns to older kids, she's pretty much set...no reason to lose her cool. :-)

Well she doesn't really take care of her 18 kids, her other kids do all the parenting and she sits back (or lays back) and has more kids.

Giving birth and parenting are two different things.

I just love your children! Mine certainly are never smartmouthed.
...I'm waiting for the lightning to strike me down right here on my couch...

My gut reaction to Brayden's comment was, "The Duggar family doesn't live in the REAL world, that's why!"

Yep, 5 am, and tell them all tonight that they will be ON THEIR OWN in the morning, and to make sure that someone has coffee on your nightstand, so you won't even need to get out of bed once they're gone.

I hear you! Vance asks me why I yell at him so much, and I told him b/c he gives me plenty to yell about! I chose the profession to teach, so now I will have all of the little darlings tomorrow. Most will be comatosed until 11am b/c they have stayed up so late over the break, including my own. Hey, at least your kids don't go to work with you and one is in the same grade you teach so you see them several times a day!!! Aagh!!!!!

Amen! Amen! Amen! Oh, the bickering is driving me up a wall. And even though they are complaining, I have a feeling that in their heart of hearts, they'll be glad to get back to routine.

Ah, heck. Who cares how they feel? They're going back to school!!!!!

Yay I can't wait for tomorrow morning either!
I wondered the same thing as Brayden about that Duggar woman and I think that she's on drugs. Why else would you have 18 kids? Or maybe her kids are just better behaved than mine so she doesn't have to yell at them.

Tell Brayden she can be Duggar child number 19 if she wants to give it a whirl.....That mom doesn't lose her temper because she doesn't even know those children!! How can anyone truly mother 18 kids at one time??? Can they really be that clean and perfect ALL the time? Don't any of those children have meltdowns and temper tantrums? Come on -- That's just not normal!

We watch the Duggars at our house sometimes. We being my 13 year old daughter and I. We find it so bizarre, we call it a cult. I know that is not nice, but that is how we see it.

I'm not looking forward to school starting tomorrow. Working in the nurse's office, they will all come to see me because they didn't get enough sleep over break, or they ate too many cookies or some other lame excuse. Only two full weeks of school then we get another day off! (And my kids are grown, so days off are nice and quiet for me...)

Harumph. I often wonder that about myself as well. Sigh.

And may I add that I put my children to bed at 6:58pm tonight? Oh yes, it's time for break to be over.

As a single father whose kids live with me, I am ready for school to start as well! Love your work so much that it motivated me to write as well. Would love if you and some of your readers would take a look.

Well, our morning has come early too--and for the first time, it is because the kids are going to school. After homeschooling all these years (well, Fergus is just about 9, so not ALL that many years), we are trying school.

Though I'm a little sad, we did have a conversation yesterday about calling people names, during which Fergus referenced an imaginary paper that proved I have called him a brat 2,953 times. And Norah chimed in, "actually, she said 'spoiled brat!'" For the record, on a few rare occasions I have told Fergus he was ACTING like a spoiled brat. Nowhere near 2,953 times; less that 10 I figure. Not my best parenting moments, but the provocation was great, believe me. And to me there is a distinction between saying he IS a brat and saying he is ACTING like one. Perhaps that distinction is lost on kids, and I should be grateful that we're all trying this break.

This morning as we are walking out the door to school my daughter said this was the best school day ever... I said why... she said it was because I hadn't yelled once this morning...
Worst. mother. ever.

I have just dropped my four kids off at school and am enjoying my peace and quiet.

I also have wondered what kind of freak of nature that Duggar Mom is. Very good question Brayden. HOW does she stay so calm and never yell? Especially since she home schools them and is with them all the time.

Lucky you...I have one more day since today is a "teacher work day".

I am so ready for them to go back as well!!!

It's so funny; I read this post yesterday RIGHT after I'd yelled at my boy for roughhousing upstairs with the dog. I was down here on the computer, feeling really bad, and then I read your post and felt better (misery loves company, proven yet again!). For the record, though, I do miss him and will be happy to pick him up in a couple of hours!

You know, I can't quite figure the Duggars out. I have watched their show, seen some of their specials (like when they were building and moving into the new home and when they went on vacaction cross country in an RV), and checked out their website. What I can't quite figure out is that they are either the coolest family ever and I am so jealous of them, or they are the creepiest family ever and need an intervention.

Omigosh, that's hysterical!! Michelle Duggar always kind of looks in la-la land to me, I need some of whatever she's on. ;)
