Occasionally I will plan ideas for this blog ahead of time .... deep, profound thoughts about the universe and my place in it.
Most times, I pretty much fly by the seat of my pants and write about the mundane, bizarre, random things that happen during the course of a day ... pretty much *as* they happen.
For the last 48 hours, I've been waiting for inspiration to strike. For something humorous, or scandalous, or the least bit interesting, to happen, so I could share it with all of you.
As of right now? I've got nothing.
I woke up this morning, tried to take my kids on a bike ride, pouted because no-one would go with me, praised the dog for going potty outside, did three loads of laundry, took a nap, took a shower, then went to a Sunday School party this evening.
Nothing earth-shattering, as you can see.
So ...........

Just finished the most delicious take-out eggplant parm as I hit the publish button on my own post and was about to close the laptop when I caught you in my feed reader. Full belly, ready for bed. Thanks for asking!
Maybe tomorrow will have an adventure!
be careful what you wish for! ;>) You will have some wild story pop up...

Work. Mountain bike. Sing. Repeat.
That is my life in a nutshell.
Well, that and we moved four radio stations this week. I don't ever want to do that again....
I thought you had run away on a girl friend/scrapbook weekend or caught the pukes from your hubby!!
Kristie,
Like Seinfeld episodes, you can "spin a yarn" from the mundane moments of life. I don't know how you do it. You ask what is new with us. I could tell you and probably bore you to death because my presentation of life's events never quite translate in written words to be as funny and interesting (and sometime poignant) to read as yours! What is new? We are readying "Thing #1" to return to college next week. We will miss her, she has finally left those ugly teenage years behind her and is turning into a lovely young woman. "Thing #2, being a brainless 17 year old, had a horrific accident (a direct result of being a brainless 17 year old boy) and we are nursing him back to good health which has consumed the better part of our summer. I see my oncologist next month with great hopes that at this visit, which is also my five year anniversary of my diagnosis of cancer, I will be released from visits every six months to once a year, yippee!
I'm looking at my 12 year old son and the huge bruises on his arms, and hoping no one at school sees and reports us to CPS. How did he get those bruises? He is defensive end and left tackle. He played both offense and defense for nearly the whole scrimmage today on a 85 degree day on a turf field (sitting out only the last 3 plays of the game). He sacked the qb, took down the running back a few times and recovered a fumble. I would have been out after the first hit, but he absolutely loves it. And he won't wear the arm pads that are sitting in his drawer...because it's not cool, mom.
I also learned how to line soccer fields this morning...how cool is that? lol
How about a puppy update with photos, of course!
Just finished helping my husband put together shelves for our storage room in the basement. Ahhh...gotta love all that organization! Re-painting our middle daughter's room tomorrow (pepto bismal pink), in the hopes that she will actually want to sleep in her own room once school starts (after Labor Day), instead of in her big sister's room. Bought $800 dollars worth of school uniforms for our three children today......YIKES....that was painful. We'll be finishing up summer reading book reports tomorrow, too. Trying to get all of this last minute "crap" done before school starts and SOCCER season is officially underway! Ten year old daughter plays travel, six year old daughter plays intramural, and four year old son just gets drug along to all of their practices/games and will probably be scarred for life and never want to play any sport, EVER.

Does Barley have a middle name yet?
Really want to know? I have 2 newborns and neither sleep through the night yet. I have laundry, bottles, endlessly! I love them dearly, but I'd give anything for 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep!

Just found out some close friends are pregnant... is it OK to want to have kids starting 'trying' next year and STILL feel left out when people pass you by? I feel fertility-challenged already, surrounded by people who get knocked up in the blink of an eye.... i just know it will be more difficult for us, even though we are not trying yet. is that bad?
sorry, needed some venting. It's just... not everyone can be that fertile... and that only leaves us!!!
I was wondering if you still talked to Terry and Julianna Banana? I used to check their CB site all the time, but updates got few and far between...I miss hearing about that family. You and Terry were always such great writers.
I see someone asked in the comments if Barley got a middle name yet, I too was wondering that. How about Barley Brewster? :)
Oh, and even when you have nothing good to write about, its still a good read...I check your blog daily.
You are so funny.
It's a bank holiday weekend here and that only means one thing...competitive grass cutting...who can cut their front grass into the shortest, neatest, greenist, apple pie perfection lawn. It's pathetic. Excuse me, I've got to get the mower out...
We sat through the wind and rain of TS Fay yesterday and last night. I think she's gone for the most part. Now there's just a lot of cleaning up to do. Yuk. I would rather have had your day. :)

I woke up early this morning and have been playing on the computer, playing with our goldendoodle, and watching Dances with Wolves for the millionth time. The kids are still sleeping, my husband works weekends so I'm cherishing this brief alone time. I'd like to see more pics of Barley too. Our dog Lucy is part standard poodle, and part golden retriever hence the goldendoodle. The retriever in her makes her very sweet and was easy to train. She's 2 now and I don't think we've had a better dog! We got her from a breeder in Fl and she flew Delta to us where we picked her up in Atlanta. Barley is so cute we're thinking about adding another one. Check them out at www.mcdoodles.com Hope everyone is well. Haley has her 11 year check up next month. Unbelievable it's been that long!
Here's whats new with us...braving the hell that is back to school clothes shopping with my 11 year old daughter....nothing that is appropriate fits, nothing that she likes fits, the same size in 5 different stores is 5 different sizes.....three days 4 stores 30 pairs of sneakers and none fit....Man , I need a drink just remembering it :)

Dixie, WIshing I knew you and lived close by -- would love to come hold those babies so you can get some much needed sleep. Hang in there....
Kristie, nothing exciting to report here. Gearing up for the 1st day of school tomorrow.
Sitting at the computer...where else. Pondering the day ahead. Son watching old Speed Racer with dad. Daughters still asleep after birthday party yesterday.
I need to move furniture today, sort through kids' room junk on floor of bedroom, fill out forms for my new to kindergarten son, pack lunches for the first day of school, watch some Olympics..
Really just want to go back to bed.
Do your kids like riding bikes? My daughters were late to go on 2 wheels...7/8 years old. They ride so infrequently that their bikes are too small and have flat tires. My son screams when I suggest riding a tricycle...not sure what the deal is with them.
doing nothing too... blog hopping which isn't really doing nothing is it? I don't want to do anything. Not that I don't want to do anything, it's just that I don't want to do what needs to be done... laundry -- washing, folding, putting away... cleaning the monstrosity known as the kitchen after baking too many muffins and fruit breads this am... getting some excercise, getting hair cuts for the boys, grocery shopping... blech, blech, blech... I would rather be doing Nothing!
That's why I started a BLOG but don't write....the crickets are chirping here in NC too!
Sunday morning here, need to start getting ready for church. After church, will spend rest of day finishing up house cleaning and getting ready for several day road trip/vacation down to northern Oregon coast - Seaside, Cannon Beach, Portland, maybe a side trip over to Mt. Hood....last week before first week of high school starts. Ten whole days away from Boeing - yeah!!!! Tried to take one day off last month - got called back in for an "engineering emergency". So THIS time, decided to go too far away to be called back in. Now, just hoping the weather cooperates and the money holds out.
How's the rental house doing? Last I remember you were putting in a diswasher for the soon-to-be tennent. Is the tennent working out okay?
just returned from a two family camping trip with our 8 children combined! no one drowned. so it was a success! it did not rain. it was a success! then reality set in. "he took my ds." "I want *that* seat on the ride home" etc, etc, etc. even though we only had one hour to drive! seriously. Tammy in Ohio
I redid the design on my blog. I also listened to sad music on my iPod the better part of the morning, and kind of squashed my will to live. Just another day in paradise :)

Start student teaching tomorrow in a kindergarten classroom..should be interesting..today not so interesting.. must be something about the 24th of August
Just got back from a weekend jaunt to the Adirondack Mountains. (Need to update my blog) What a wonderful break it provided from the 90 degree heat we've been experiencing.
Have to go help set up our classroom tomorrow for the little ones who return to school in a week. NY schools are on a different timeline compared to you all!
Spent the last two days hanging out and relaxing. Had an IUI done on Sat. morning. Trying desperately not to think about Sept. 2nd when I start back to work. Desperately remembering that I really should go back into my classroom next week sometime to get stuff organized for going back to school. Feeling blah!

Even when nothing goes on, I love to read your blog! How about some Barley pictures and stories. We just returned from moving the Princess to college, the party will now commence (for the parents)! Now I can clean my house and it will stay that way. She was out until the wee hours last night and didn't finish packing, so guess who got up at 6, tried to roust her from bed for 45 minutes and finished the packing? Good thing we love her!
Hope Blaine is feeling better so tomorrow you can make your own fun all by yourself at home!

Liznsummer--take a little time on your trip to drive down the Columbia River Gorge. Sometimes I take the long way to Portland just so I can.
