Ungrateful

Kendrie and I were driving home from the mall just now, where I had just purchased her a new pair of tennis shoes. NOT because she had outgrown her old shoes, but because Kellen had outgrown *his* old shoes and heaven forbid one kid get new shoes in this house and not the other two. (Seriously -- I think we have some "fairness issues" to work on .....)

Anyway! We were talking about birthdays and Kendrie mentioned that in only nine more birthdays it will be time for her to leave the house.

I started teasing her that no, she wasn't ever going to be allowed to leave.

This is how the conversation went:

Kendrie: "Of course I have to leave, I have to go to college."

Me: "No, you can live at home while you are in college."

Kendrie: "Well then I'm going to get married and leave."

Me: "No, I've already decided that you and your husband can live with us. You're never leaving."

Kendrie: "My husband isn't going to want to live with you!"

Me: "Oh yes he will. It'll be fine."

Kendrie: "Mom. We are going to have a lot better things to do than sit around with a bunch of old people, feeding you applesauce."

Did I mention I had just bought her a new pair of shoes? And THAT is the thanks I get???!?!!

Oh yeah! I can relate to this one. I have a daughter this age....sometimes kids can really make you feel good. Gee kids....;)

Then again sometimes they can really make you feel great...and loved. Ya know

Hey, just be glad she's willing to feed you applesauce. I just tell my parents to remember who gets to pick out their nursing home. . .

Punks. They're all punks. Good for you for not beating her with the sneakers. ;)

(And I say this as a mom who bought the 8 year old a new ballet sweater as a surprise last week and got a complaint that it was a little too big. I had to restrain myself from wrapping that thing around her little punk neck, LOL!)

...did you ask if she'd be willing to open your bottles of beer and bring them to you?

My motto? I gave you live and I can take it from you...just kidding of course :)

Feed you applesauce! Heck, tell her that would be on a good day and that you're really keeping her around to change your diapers when the time comes and that turnabout is fair play. Maybe not. She might run away tomorrow. Better to suffer in silence.

That is hysterical - feeding you applesauce???!!! Where in the world did she hear that one??!!

That's one of those classic moments in time! Well, maybe with some luck, Kellen and Brayden will feed you applesauce later in life!

I think she has inherited your humor!! You better pre-choose your own nursing home. Funny stuff!

It dawned on me this morning that you should rejoice at being able to buy Kellen shoes at the store...because at the rate that kid is growing it won't be long before you will have to shop online because his feet will be too big to be shod anywhere but online!- Speaking from experience of course...you can't find a 15 at Foot Locker :)

My 13 year old the other day when she was mad about something or the other

"You may as well start saving for the nursing home because I'm NOT taking care of the meanest Mother in the whole world"

Oh well there goes that plan!!

I plan to be far more gracious to my parents.

I'll offer them yogurt as well.
