From one cat owner to another (hee hee)For cat box liners we use 13 gallon plastic garbage bags, cheap ones work well (with a straight bottom seam, no corners) and scoop her TWO boxes daily (she's very picky) and have stopped buying toys since she never plays with them. Her faves are shopping bags, boxes and a rubber finger puppet monster that came with an order from Perpetual Kid. She also is an awesome soccer player with DumDum suckers. The less money spent, the better! We did invest in a Furminator after reading about it on (I think) your blog last summer. Wow! What a difference in the amount of cat-hair-bunnies blowing around on the hardwood floors! I think the money we're saving on cat supplies is spent on a higher water bill since she refuses to drink from her bowl and only wants bathtub water. I just don't look at the water bill.

And we got the Furminator from Amazon much cheaper than the big pet stores sell it for!

Glad Blackie's back in town! We rescued a feral cat years ago...he will come into our kitchen to eat and downstairs to go out the cat door...it's kind of hard to make an indoor cat out of one who is used to roaming free. The only time this guy has gone missing was when he wondered into our neighbor's furnace room/workshop and spent a week locked in there...until he meowed so long they called me and said to come coax him out. Needless to say he hasn't done that again! He hates it when it rains...he keeps going out and coming back in! And it's raining now!

Welcome to the joys of being owned by a cat! With time you'll get by much more cheaply, I'm sure. And I think giving a homeless cat a home IS helping - whether you spend anything or not. Hope Blackie adjusts easily to the change of "venue"........

Just wanted to let you know we just had our black ferral cat vaccinated at the local vet today. In the process we found out that SHE was a HE. ha ha, jokes on us I guess. I told them that I was not going to get that up close and personal to the cat to find out!! Hey, at least it's cheaper to get him neutered that to get spayed. That's next on the list. I am just praying he doesn't run away like yours did...Ashley would be so sad!

if you really want a fresh smelling litter box, mix freshstep multiple cat with fresh step lavender...even if you only have 1 cat, i live in a small apartment (900 sq feet) with 2 cats and you can't even smell the litter boxes...we can go 4 days with out scooping (that's only happened when we both went on vacation...aka once) but seriously, the stuff works wonders. just don't waste your money on Tidy Cats - it's TERRIBLE.
and as far as toys - ours like a laser pointer...or a poland spring water case with the plastic still on. ;)

Now that I know how much you love kitties we have 4 feral ones that won't stay out of our backyard. (our neighbor feeds them) Although I love the fact that we can't even sit in our sunroom anymore because of the stench of cat piss I will be willing to part with them if it will make you happy. I'll box them up for you and mail them out so Blackie can have some kitty siblings. No need to thank me.

Oh Krisie, I mean this with love and utter respect for what you're doing...Do you have ***any*** idea how hard it is to turn an outdoor cat into an indoor cat? I hope you're ready for sleepless nights. But you might be lucky. I volunteer for Feline Welfare and what you're trying to do is probably one of the most difficult things people try. For what it's worth I'd microchip him, castrate him if he's not already fixed, this helps cut down the wanders, put a safe collar on him with your phone number on the tag and try to accept that he likes to go walkabout...but...I understand the heartache of a missing pet too so I am waiting for all your updates. I didn't see earplugs on your shopping list. You may need them, there's nothing as loud as the cry of a cat wanting to get out at 2am, Miaoooooooooow! Love and prayers to you all.

It looks like you have more than enough adivce on pet care, and since I don't have any good advice I will wish you the best of luck!

He He. I totally relate. I told my husband that I think we need to buy stock in Petsmart. It seems we are there once a week.
