A few of you mentioned in the comment section about how not only personal music devices have changed, but those cell-phone ear piece-thingys as well.
I think I made my opinion on that pretty well known a while ago.
And you know how sometimes in life you make a bold statement, and then later you circumstances change, or your opinions change, and you wind up with egg on your face because you've had to totally eat your words and alter your position on something?
This is not one of those times.*
*although I reluctantly caved to the peer pressure of texting. But I do it as seldom as possible, and I stink at it. So unless you're texting me that my house is on fire, don't expect a response. **
**but seriously, assuming I do continue to text (reluctantly and slowly) how do I fix my settings so that when someone sends *me* a text, their name shows up and not their number? Because I love my friends and all, but no way do I have their phone numbers memorized. So to the person who sent me a text yesterday morning, you didn't get a reply because I have no idea who you are.
***Buggy, basket, cart. Whatever. I use all three, and no matter what I call it, I always get the one with the busted wheel that veers drastically to the left.

I could literally build a fire using just sticks to light it and send a smoke signal faster than I could send a text message. Seriously. I am that slow.
If you have contacts saved in your phone, their name will show up when they call or text.
Kristie,
U kin sav dere numba to da fone & den it wud no da name. LOL....that is how my son would text that info to me totally spending more time figuring out how to misspell than just sending me a text correctly........but seriously....if they are a saved contact then you will get their name as the phone will translate the incoming text to a name. Good Luck......dena
I always get the one that makes loud noises/squeeks/etc. And, sadly, I've had to reverse my position on personal digital music devices - I am now an Ipod addict at work (it has the added benefit of tuning out all the obnoxious engineers!)........
I never read that post from 2007. I just did and laughed out loud. In addtion to thinking the person is talking to themselves, I do the same thing..think the person is talking to me and I stupidly say "what?"
Yea if you have the person saved as a contact their name should come up when you get a text. If you still have trouble give it to one of your kids and they can fix it for you.
they all veer drastically to the left. Except the ones that veer to the right. I think it is a law that no cart can head dead center.
I caved in to peer pressure and got texting too! My daughter, in college, said I was the "only one" she couldn't text while she was in class!! It takes me FOREVER to text...I have to take off my glasses to see those little letters lightly etched by the number....and I don't think there is spell check - it just makes up words by itself - and when I try to clear those made up words, sometimes I hit send instead! I could say in a minute what it takes me 15 min. to text!! Boni
Here in California...I rarely hear it called a buggy. Just like I never hear soda called soda pop. However I do hear a lot off "hella" california slang. I have been reading your blog and journal posts on caringbridge for a while. I was in the Air Force and heard about it through a friend. Anyway I pray for you guys.

Saddest "phone in ear" moment. Saw a dad with a tiny girl about 2 at Chuckee Cheese. He walked around with little girl for almost an hour and never once got off the phone or talked directly to her. Just lifted her on and off rides while talking on phone. Why bring her and not talk to her? Wouldn't it have been easier for him to stay at home? Sad.
