It takes a long time to grow old friends

Or, Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Or, Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same.

Or, Friends are relatives you make for yourself.

Or, A friend is one of the nicest things you can have, and one of the best things you can be.

In other words, can you guess what we did this week?

And why this might have been the best week of Kendrie's whole summer, right up until the moment we had to say good-bye last night, and she cried for two hours about why can't we still live in Georgia, and it's no fair, and how much she misses him, and all I have to say about that is thank goodness we're getting our new puppy this weekend so that MAYBE it will take her mind off her heart-ache .... ?!?

My son had a very special childhood friend named Dana. They used to play day and night together until we moved to another town. They kept in touch for a while, but as they grew and became busy in their lives, they lost touch. However, their memories are some of the sweetest that we have as a family. We often refer to the time that my son and Dana got "married" in the backyard. The bride wore a beautiful white wedding dress (my daughter's Halloween costume) and carried a bouquet of dandelions. My son (the groom) entered the ceremony by going down the sliding board, dressed in shorts, no shirt or shoes, and a tie. They were about 3 1/2 or 4 years old at the time and had no romantic intentions with their marriage -- Only that they solidified their lasting friendship. I still believe they may meet again and fulfill their commitment. How wonderful to have these memories to cherish!

They are just the cutest things...awe...that's so sweet that he got to come visit. :)

I want to see more pictures! They seriously look like a little couple. hee hee...

But I am curious...did Nicholas fly out by himself or did his parents come too?

(I know...it's a strange unimportant question and it makes me feel a little bit like Vern in "Stand By Me" when he asks, "Wait...there's just one thing I don't understand. Did Lard Ass have to PAY to get into the contest?!")

But I am still curious. :)

Adorable and sad all at once. We just moved cross sountry, so I know what it is like to have little people pining for their old friends:(

OMG, you need to put a book on Kellen's head already, to slow his growth down! That boy is gonna be 7 feet tall! I am LMAO at how he is now towering over his "big" sister and totally towering the little sis, and they are only like what, a yr and a half apart in age?

Aw, I've missed seeing and hearing about Nicholas in your blog! I'm so glad he and Kendrie were able to have a reunion. Hopefully the knowledge that visits are possible in addition to the *new puppy* will ease Kendrie's mind a little.

Kristie, you are the coolest mom! My mom would never let my BF stay over.
I wish we could fast forward about 10-15 years!

Kristie, it's no wonder that you have so many readers of your blog. In spite of all those crap sandwiches that have landed on your plate, you still manage to make the portion you've been served sound like the best meal in the house! You have friends... REAL friends.. all across the country, and you're planting the seeds of friendship in your kids, as well. Bless you, for reminding all of us what life is really all about! Kendrie, I'm so glad you got to spend time with Nicholas, and I predict that he will be a lifelong friend.

My daughter understands Kendrie's heartache. She's had the same 'boyfriend' since she was THREE! (She's 6 now). He goes to a different school so she doesn't get to see him. His bday party is this week and we've been invited so it will be interesting to see how he reacts to her after not seeing her for a year...She might really be heartbroken by the time the party is over! (or more in love than ever)
