SPT Challenge March 3

Self-Portrait Tuesday ..... for March 3, as per Lelly's Musings:

"Take Self-Portraits through the entire month of March utilizing the number eight."

OK.

Hmmmmmmm.

I think this is a clever idea, for a week. Not for a whole month. It might be different if I had an eight year old, or could lose eight pounds, or had thought to take a photo during Saturday morning's soccer game when the wind chill was FREAKING ONLY EIGHT DEGREES AND WE WERE OUTSIDE FREEZING OUR BUNS OFF ...... but I didn't.

So I'm left with this lame photo for today:

Me, preparing for my monthly Book Club get together which was held last night at 8pm. (See? I told you it was a lame interpretation of the number eight .....)

This is the same Book Club I attended last August and then didn't go back for three months due to scheduling conflicts, then felt too embarrassed to show up after being gone so long. One of the members encouraged me to re-attend this month and I'm glad I did. I met two ladies beforehand for dinner, then a larger group from my church to discuss this month's selection, The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd.

I enjoyed myself. Hot chocolate from Starbucks, a good book, and good company. Really, what else does a girl need? I definitely plan to go again next month, when they're reading "Freakology" or "Freakorama" or "Freakonomics" or something like that. Clearly I was too hopped up on sugar from the hot chocolate when the Starbucks employee kicked us out at 9:30 to really pay attention to the title.

In the meantime, I've got seven days to think up something, *anything*, with the number eight in it for next week's photo .... suggestions, anyone?

Hmmmm..if it were me, I'd take a picture of myself picking up the EIGHT pairs of shoes that have been left laying around the house.. or the eight different toys that I had to step over to get to the kitchen.. but since your house is perfect, I feel sure that would never happen at your house. How about a pic of you with eight arms around you? (all 3 kids and Blaine...)

I'm not sure about your picture. I just wanted to say I love love love this book! My teens even loved it.
Prayers for you all.

I loved that book...I just finished it a couple of weeks ago, then immediately downloaded it from itunes. Of course, the book is always better than the movie, but the movie was still pretty cute.

How about a picture of you making the 8 costumes your kids will have to wear to school before the end of the year?? :) Or your 8 most recent or favorite books. I like the suggestion of the 8 arms, too. I saw the Secret Life of Bees movie...should I read the book, too? I read Confessions of a Shopaholic before I saw the movie...and they were COMPLETELY different. I had to ignore what I remembered from the book to enjoy the movie.

How about a picture of you hugging Barley and Blackie and their eight paws????

you could take a picture of you and your 8 favorite things...

You and your family are in my daily prayers!

What a great picture Kristie--- You're hair looks so pretty, as do you!!!! I love Pam's idea about the eight arms hugging you!

Have you read any books written by Beverly Lewis? Her work could be especially good reading for church-based book clubs. And, perhaps Brayden may like some of the books she writes for youth? My favorite is the Summerhill series about a young cat lover who finds herself in lots of interesting predicaments. Though, she does at one time decide to secretly keep a baby that a couple leaves in her front yard.... don't want to put any ideas into Brayden's head :) :) :)

Not cliche when I say.....our family is praying faithfully for Blaine's complete healing and peace and joy for your whole family.

I read that book a few months ago and really loved it!

Kristie ~ I don't know if you have ever read this blog: www.precarioustomato.com but it is so darn funny. She reminds me of you and Natalie combined and makes me chuckle (did I say chuckle?) everytime I read it. Thought you could use a good laugh ~ good luck with everything with Blaine. So very sorry about the FC - it makes me sick ~ judi mitchell, franklin, ma

Does it have to be "eight"??? How about some aliteration - and use "ate"?? That sounds like it could be sooooo much more fun.....and a good excuse for going to great places to eat!!

I know an old book with 8 in it? It's called "Scratching on the 8 ball" and I think (but could be wrong) it's based on a true story. It's based on my hometown (Lincoln, NE) but it's pretty good.

Or you could watch old episodes of 8 is enough? :)

How about a Sat. morning shot at 8am hopefully still in bed? Or a shot at the end of the week or middle of the week whenever it occurs for you, of eight Sonic cups? Good luck.

I agree with you...this challenge is great for a day but for a whole month?!--Yowzer! Maybe next week I can count the 8 gray hairs that I'm going to grow just agonizing over what I will do!

I think you had a very clever interpretation, by the way!

I just went over to read Lelly's site, and she says, "the only rule is that the numeral itself must be part of the photograph." So, I suggest:

a game with cards or dice and a picture of you with an eight that you draw or roll.

you and a house number (your's or a freind's)

you and a mileage marker sign

you and the gas pump when it hits any price with eights

you and a grocery or Sonic receipt
that shows an eight

you and page number eight of your favorite book

you and a clock at eight o'clock (or anytime that includes an eight)

Have fun!

If it were me I would have to include a Magic 8 Ball...Just out of curiosity who is taking these SPT someone in the family or a timer? Cause they have all been really good.

Great 8 post. I would love to be in a book club and have been talking about starting my own. It's great you went back!

How about something you H8? Get it? Hate? Or something that is Gr8?

Good grief. I have been texting with my teen too much!

I agree with the "ate"- that is almost what I went with ...
I can't wait to see what you come up with for all the 8's. I am sure you will think of something great!

8...not cre8ive enough for that one here! I'll keep thinking.

...and a month to read a book? It's taken me forever to read the last one I started....have to go on vacation to complete a book!

Eight....hmmm. I was going to say your kitties' eight paws, too, but somebody already took that. I laughed at the suggestion to make eight costumes and liked the idea of eight arms around you. Or how about photos of eight different hairstyles you've had through the years? I think the eight arms gets my vote, though.

By the way, when I left Long John Silver's today I rang the bell ... and then I silently prayed for you guys. :-)

How about "Behind the 8 ball"?

Who in the world thought this challenge up?

How about life as a Mom....juggling 8 things at one time....cooking breakfast....looking over homework....brushing the hair....putting food in crockpot for the night's dinner.....feeding the fish....unloading the dishwasher....getting the dishes out of the dishwasher.....and setting the table for breakfast!

I hope that you enjoyed the book... "Secret Life of Bees"... I loved that book... didn't see the movie - but I'm always disappointed at the movie versions. "Freakinomics" I've heard it is good... me - I am hooked on the "Twilight" series - can't get enough of VAMPIRES, Werewolves, and bears...Oh my!

A big snowman built with just two big balls of snow would look like an 8 and you could do it with the kids.
