Yep, Grandma J, I remember learning the Mickey Mouse Club theme song, and other music, for a Disney-inspired PTA performance we did in elementary school.
I remember there was a boy a grade below me named Brent Rains who was made to dress up like Pinnochio, and told to "dance around, all jerky like a puppet" and I remember thinking I wouldn't have wanted that job because he looked a little spazz-y until my mom mentioned, "You guys are eight --- ALL of you are spazzy"
And I remember another little boy they dressed up like Tigger with a big ole', huge, round, paper mache head that bobbled and wobbled when he bounced up on stage, and that also probably impaired his breathing, and killed gobs of youthful brain cells, what with his face being surrounded by glue and all, but hey, what did it matter, at least he looked cute. And I remember, clearly, distinctly, remember thinking, "Tigger's head is going to fall off and the little kids are going to be fuh-reeked out", not even realizing that I was a little kid myself and shouldn't *I* have been fuh-reeked out by our teachers dressing us up like puppets, and animals with paper mache heads???
Ah, yes. Happy childhood memories.

First comment :-) Yay!
How is it that you can always make me smile? I love your blog :-)
Hope things are well on the other side of the world!
Kristie,
I have a childhood memory to share with you. It happened on my first day at a new school in 1st grade. I was very nervous about all the new people and scared of my teacher. A little girl next to me asked to go to the bathroom and the teacher told her NO. So she sat there in her seat crying and making quite a puddle. I felt so bad for her.
Okay, I admit it. I went to You Tube and listened to the song! That would really be a great sobriety test.
Oh, here is a "fond" school memory I am sure my daughter will have the rest of her life. Yesterday the Lovely Librarian at her school read the "Tailypo" story (read-creepy) to the kindergarteners. At 5:00am Lauren wakes the entire house with her screams of "There's a TAILYPO BY MY BED!"-completely terrified. Anyone familiar with the "Tailypo"?
Ha! It's funny how we remember events in elementary school. I love the detail description of the jerky Pinnochio puppet. Brent Rains probably has vivid memories of it too.
I can picture that poor kid with the paper mache Tigger head bobbing!!
Thank you for the morning laugh.
Here's another school memory. No one liked the kindergarten teacher we had because she was always a sour puss. Even the parents thought so. Anyway, one day my neighbor boy had his mom bring in their new puppy for show and tell. The puppy got so excited that he peed on our teacher when she was holding him. Needless to say we all thought it was hilarious. She had to go home early and we joined up with the other kindergarten class for the rest of the afternoon.
Just thought I might add that I bet the Tigger bobble head was probably painted with lead based paint.. :) Poor kid how is he/she doing today?
I've been reading your blog since you started it. You are a very funny girl. I love thinking about the funny and good times of childhood.
And just think of the memories you and Blaine are helping the kids to create.........

P.S. I just referred a parent whose child was recently diagnosed with ALL to Kendrie's site. I just know that it will offer him hope, encouragement and dose of knowledge that only a parent whose been there can provide. Again, thanks so much for sharing your story.
